TODAY’S QUESTION
Roy asks, “every day I wake up and do the same thing. I apply, network, and review the rejections. Is there a way to make it less monotonous?”
Recommendation: that sounds like a version of hell. Here is what I’d do so you don’t hate the entire process:
First, rejections are such a negative to your job search. I recently heard of someone who missed an interview opportunity at a tier one company because it was buried in a sea of rejections.
Create a folder with a rule in your inbox so that anything with the key words that always follow a rejection so that they aren’t in your inbox. Use words like “unfortunately”
Second, change things up every week or few weeks. Focus on networking for a week, then change it up to events, followed by a focus on online communities like Reddit.
Switch it up so that it’s no so boring!
Finally, surround yourself with a few people who are also looking for roles. A community makes the whole experience a heck of a lot less brutal. Even if you’re all struggling, at least you can complain about it to other people who get how difficult things can be.
Conclusion:
I get where you’re coming from and think that with a few small changes, you can make it a more enjoyable.
