Friday, June 14 - "How Bad is This Market?"

Good morning!

Here’s what’s on the JD today:

  1. A company at the heart of digital transformation is looking to expand across a number of functions.

  2. Gerpaul asks, “I’ve been applying and receiving little to no interviews. How bad is the job market right now?”

“It’s a lack of clarity that creates chaos and frustration. Those emotions are poison to any living goal.”

TODAY’S QUESTION

Gerpaul asks, “I’ve been applying and receiving little to no interviews. How bad is the job market right now?

I think the number of people asking this question highlights just how many people are struggling. Even relative to last year, it’s very challenging to land a role right now.

  • The current supply/demand movements in the job market are brutal! With anyone who wanted to work in strategy consulting having to look elsewhere, along with an increase in layoffs and the competition from previous years’ graduates who are under-employed, it doesn’t look great.

  • Entry level jobs are exceptionally challenging. What used to be a step backwards or a way of entering a new field is now a stack of 1,000 resumes from those who are over-qualified but desperate.

  • With everyone focused on LinkedIn, if you’re not finding success, try accessing jobs more targeted to international students:

Conclusion:

The sentiment is rough, with things likely not to improve much until September when there is usually a boost. Until then, try to continuously mix things up to keep some momentum.
