Recommendation: Holidays and vacations are just beginning to ramp up, with August being the month everything stops. Here are some ideas in navigating a slower market.

• Starting with the positive, now is the easiest time to network. I spoke with someone yesterday who began reaching out to 5-10 people a day and has already received her first interview from one of the referrals. Now is the time to reach out more aggressively with a short and simple message.

• The other side of this is that talent acquisition teams know everyone goes on vacation in the summer and many teams will be rushing their hiring timelines to get it all done before August begins. I’ve seen more interviews recently but know that they will begin to dry up in the next few months so practice hard for the ones you get.

• Once things slow down, consider taking advantage of the weather and filling up your social battery. Near the end of August and beginning of September, hiring will pick up quickly and it’s worth being in the best state of mind you can be for when those opportunities come.
