TODAY’S QUESTION
Today’s Question: “Many jobs I see are asking for a drivers license so I can visit work sites or travel for work. Is it worth me getting my license?”
Recommendation: I’ve always thought this was a ridiculous requirement for candidates, given the plethora of other options, but it exists and here’s what I’d do if I was in the same position:
First, be honest about how many opportunities require a license.
In my experience, it’s less than 5% of relevant roles that ask for a drivers license so while there are consistently roles that require it, it’s not an overwhelming amount.
Second, the roles I see with such requirement still have wild numbers of applicants.
There are clearly enough drivers who are interested (or candidates who lie) that getting the drivers license won’t provide a significant boost in your competitiveness.
Finally, I have seen candidates get their drivers license. It’s usually those candidates who want to be able to drive for other reasons (travel, weekend camping trips, etc.).
If you’ve been thinking about getting it anyways, then this might be the perfect time and reason to go do it. Hopefully you’re able to do it without expensive lessons.
Conclusion:
For some candidates, it makes complete sense and if you do, make sure to have some fun and go for a weekend driving trip :)
Have a great day,
Adam
