TODAY’S QUESTION
Today’s Question: “I heard Saudi Arabia is easier to get a job in. Is that true and should I apply there?”
Recommendation: I have seen a few people get roles there and this is how I feel in general for other candidates with open to international roles:
First, it’s clearly not for everyone. The culture is quite different and it’s worth considering whether the conservative values would fit with your lifestyle.
I once heard someone refer to Dubai as “that place where slavery is still allowed”. If you’re part of this group, it’s maybe best to stay in a place where progressive values are more dominant.
Second, if you’re willing to be away from home and are looking for an adventure, it can be a fantastic opportunity.
The money being thrown around in Riyadh and other cities can be quite impressive and there are a number of interesting corporates with an appetite for international talent.
Finally, if you’re nervous about living directly in Saudi Arabia, keep an eye out or negotiate for a role where you can live in Dubai but work a version of hybrid traveling into Saudi Arabia for certain work related trips.
These are quite common and can be an excellent option for those worried about how they’ll fit into the middle east. Dubai is much more western, but close enough that you can work in Saudi Arabia.
Conclusion:
For most people who are willing, it’s an a great opportunity. I am no expert though so it’s an opportunity to network for information on the living quality before making any long term decisions.
Have a great day,
Adam
