Happy Monday!

Here’s what’s on the job description for today:

  1. New roles from an AI software company supporting marketing teams.

  2. Today’s Question: “I have a range of different job titles on my resume including Founder. Does that matter?”

TODAY’S QUESTION

Today’s Question: “I have a range of different job titles on my resume including Founder. Does that matter?”

Recommendation: Here’s how I see past job titles and how they impact a resume:

  • First, each candidate gets about 6-8 seconds to impress the person reading and trying to find the best 10 or so applicants.

    • Of those seconds, they spend most of the time reviewing previous companies and titles. I would say previous titles matter.

  • Second, whether you agree with it or not, being overqualified and having previous titles such as Founder or CEO, seems to be a common enough reason that candidates get rejected.

    • Having titles like these also can be confusing when titles jump from associate to Founder and then back to senior associate.

  • Finally, if you’ve got experience launching or running your own business, add it in a separate section called “Entrepreneurial Experience”.

    • This way you can get credit for being entrepreneurial but keep the format moving in a logical direction.

Conclusion:

Past titles seem important but each situation will require it’s own thought. If you have more specific questions, send them over and I’ll do my best to answer.

Have a great day,

Adam
