Wednesday, February 12 - "How Do I Deal With So Much Rejection?"

Happy Monday!

Here’s what’s on the job description for today:

  1. New roles from a company focused on upgrading the legacy tech in banking.

  2. Today’s Question: “I am applying a lot and most roles I am getting rejected from. Is there a better way to deal with the constant rejection?”

“Success is getting what you want; happiness is wanting what you get.”

- W. P. Kinsella

IN HIRING

Thought Machine

  • For those with either a technical or financial interest, this a great place to be in a massively growing space, given how ancient the banking technology is.

  • The company is UK and Singapore based and has a number of roles available in finance, partnerships, and engineering.

  • Here are a few of the most interesting roles available

TODAY’S QUESTION

Today’s Question: “I am applying a lot and most roles I am getting rejected from. Is there a better way to deal with the constant rejection?”

Recommendation: rejection is brutal no matter how you look at it. Here’s what I recommend:

  • First, if rejection is getting in the way of motivation or drive, remove it from your daily view.

    • Create a smart folder in your email with key words that rejection often includes such as “regret” or “unfortunately” so that rejection emails go into that folder. Check it once a week to see if you missed anything.

  • Second, consider narrowing your search to only jobs that are most relevant. While applying to a wide range of jobs can feel good and productive, it’s a big time spend and you end up using less energy on the most realistic jobs and a lot more on reading rejection emails from all the useless ones.

  • Finally, turn off notifications from your phone or at least email after a certain point in the day.

    • If you get an email after 5PM, you absolutely do not need to look at it that night. There are no emergencies that you’re going to get via email.

    • It’s more likely that automated rejections will just ruin your night and any social activities you have planned.

Conclusion:

Setup a tech system that makes it less likely you’ll see rejection all day every day. Make it so that you only see them during specific times you pick.

Have a great day,

Adam
