TODAY’S QUESTION

Today’s Question: “I have my first final round interview coming up. What’s the best way to prepare for one?”

Recommendation: final rounds are notoriously challenging as there is a wide scope with regards to the topics that can come up. Here’s how I’d prepare for an upcoming final round:

  • First, you’ll want to learn as much information about the interview, the interviewer, and the team/role as possible before the interview.

    • I would do this be setting up coffee chats with any of your current contacts who work there, any alumni that work there, or reaching out to about 15-20 people at the company via cold LinkedIn networking.

  • Second, use the information you get and public information via websites like Reddit or Glassdoor to set up an idea of what to expect.

    • You will want to have an idea of the day-to-day work of the successful applicant.

    • Aim to find out questions asked in advance, or the types of questions asked (will there be a case or market sizing involved?

  • Finally, become highly competent in introducing yourself and answering why you want to work there.

    • Final rounds are often focused on “fit” but not always. If they are, then you’ll need to include the values the company uses within your answers.

    • Aim for authentic answers as these can somewhat feel forced if you just feel you need an answer. Look at the values and see which one or two really connects with your and your experience to get started.

Conclusion:

Final rounds are super exciting and with the right process, they can become less anxiety provoking, meaning more confidence and higher conversions.

Have a great day,

Adam
