Tuesday, February 25 - "How Do I Deal With The Stress?"

Happy Tuesday!

Here’s what’s on the job description for today:

  1. New roles from one of Europe’s most successful Fintechs.

  2. Today’s Question: “I’m so stressed about upcoming interviews that I’m not eating or sleeping well. Any ideas?”

“Success is stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.”

TODAY’S QUESTION

Today’s Question: “I’m so stressed about upcoming interviews that I’m not eating or sleeping well. Any ideas?”

Recommendation: it sounds like the stress from preparing is getting in the way of actually being prepared. Here’s what I’ve seen work best:

  • First, setup a plan. Write a list of things you need to do in order to be fully prepared.

    • Don’t be afraid to get everything out in your first draft. Just getting it out of your head and onto paper is a great start.

  • Second, remove the things from your list that aren’t really that important. Stick to the most critical elements of your prep. Try to keep between 3-5 things in total.

    • Beside each one you keep, include a way of knowing when you’ve completed it. Don’t let yourself fall into the trap of including things which can never really be crossed off or completed.

  • Finally, go through them and check things off as you complete them.

    • Between each item on your list, force yourself to do something completely unrelated to the list.

    • There is a ton of evidence, including THIS, which shows why this is one of the most important elements of the whole process.

Conclusion:

Stress is natural given the huge emotional swings in most job searches. Dealing with this can be most critical when big interviews are coming up and you need to be focused. Try these steps and adapt as necessary.

Have a great day,

Adam
