TODAY’S QUESTION
Today’s Question: “I had a final round interview and it did not go well. None of them seem to be working out. What should I do?”
Recommendation: sorry to hear that it isn’t going well. Before you enter a spiral of self-doubt, try these:
First, write down a list of the things you’re getting better at or strong at in interviews. Try to make this list as long as possible.
Then find 2-3 things you have heard feedback on or think you’re weak in. Max 3. Ask someone you’re close with and trust if those sound fair or if you’re overthinking. Then pick the one that you can actually work on and spend a week progressing through that skill.
Second, never stop applying to new roles.
The worst thing about failing at an interview is feeling like you have to re-start the entire process.
If you have upcoming interviews elsewhere, you can focus on those and find optimism.
Finally, list out activities that recharge your batter. Anything from sleep to journaling, painting, walking, tennis, whatever.
Get in the habit of doing one of these daily and put some time aside to think about where you need to improve after these activities so you can think more clearly about them.
Conclusion:
I find that activity is one of the best ways out of a negative headspace. Find the activities that boost your morale and help you think more clearly so you can work on the real aspects of your job search that could use more time or development.
Have a great day,
Adam
