TODAY’S QUESTION
Today’s Question: “the job search has become my life and I hate it. Is it worth taking a break and if so, how?”
Recommendation: Whether a full-on break is necessary, only you can decide. Here’s what I’ve seen work best:
First, think of your search in seasons. Don’t spend every week of your job search doing the same thing.
Spend a few weeks learning a relevant hard skill that is in demand.
YouTube is now the university of nearly every hard skill and comes at a price point perfect for job seekers.
Then switch over to a few weeks where you focus on networking.
As you’re in the midst of that season, the focus for the following weeks will come to you.
Second, find a great community where you can vent to others who are going through their own version of the grind.
If you don’t have nearby friends or family you want or can talk to about this, try something like this to read about others so you don’t feel alone.
Finally, spend some time daily or weekly being honest with yourself about where you’re at and what you could be doing to improve things.
Here are some questions I might ask:
Are you treating yourself worse than you would a friend you cared about?
What things would you include in your daily schedule if you were trying to be the healthiest version of yourself?
What activities do you think you hate or are bad at but only because you never do them?
Conclusion:
You may need a break and only you can answer for that. If you’re struggling and want to turn it around, try the things above and see how you feel after one week.
Have a great day,
Adam
