TODAY’S QUESTION

Krishna asks, “I’m open to working wherever. Should I be applying to other countries too?”

Recommendation: There are many interesting cities abroad which have sympathetic visa systems. Here’s how to navigate:

  • Have a main goal city you are aiming at and focus most of your time there. The current market is brutal so it’s important to have a first priority and primary focus. The effects of networking are most useful when concentrated on one city as well.

  • Outside of that, find at most two countries you could work in. Take a look at their visa systems to get an understanding of which countries you should consider.

    • Click here for a list of countries with the most relaxed working visa systems (Germany has a fantastic list of entry options).

  • So as to not focus too much energy and time, set up some smart job alerts using job titles that are similar to what you’re looking for and in the country you’re aspiring to be in. Spend 15 minutes a day checking them to see if anything interesting pops up.

Conclusion:

Most job seekers don’t care where if the job is interesting enough. Create a list of countries you could work in and spend a bit of time every day or week checking in.
