Tuesday, July 30 - "Do I Need To Be A Perfect Fit?"
Good morning!
Here’s what’s on the JD today:
The company that we all use but love to hate on is hiring.
Elaine asks, “Some jobs are very interesting but I’m only partially qualified. How perfect of a fit do I need to be?”
“If somebody offers you an amazing opportunity but you are not sure you can do it, say yes – then learn how to do it later!”
IN HIRING
This company is involved in a massive percentage of worldwide hiring, especially in western nations providing employees with the opportunity to impact global hiring procedures.
Currently, there are a number of roles focused mostly in the USA, Singapore, India, and some in western Europe.
Here are a few of the most interesting roles available

TODAY’S QUESTION
Elaine asks, “Some jobs are very interesting but I’m only partially qualified. How perfect of a fit do I need to be?”
It used to be much easier to transition industries or roles than it is today. There are still some areas in which it’s completely possible.
Recommendation: Here are some best practices when looking at roles and wondering whether you’re a good enough fit to proceed:
The first thing is to be real about how much of a problem this is. If you are looking at product roles, there are thousands of opportunities but if you’re looking at something more niche, you may be able to apply to all opportunities available. I’ll assume you’re looking at a more broad category of roles.
The most important thing to consider is which skills you have and how important they are to the role or company. Hard skills such as coding, experience with a certain software or platform, or a qualification with letters such as ACCA or CPA are more difficult to get around than “presenting to senior stakeholders”, which can be added to anyone’s resume.
Networking with those at the company and in the industry will give you a fantastic idea of which skills are required and which are “nice-to-haves”.
Finally, depending on where you are in your search (ie. do you graduate in 3 months or did you graduate a year ago and are desperate), apply to a wide range of roles and keep track of how you’re doing. I currently am working with someone part way through an accounting designation who regularly gets interviews where they ask for the designation to be completed as a minimum requirement.
Conclusion:
Job descriptions show lots of qualifications and requirements but they’re not all equally required. Try applying to some and see how they go, while in the background begin working on some of the skills to improve your odds.
