TODAY’S QUESTION

Patrick asks, “I have a video interview coming up but I always feel a bit awkward when there’s no one to talk to. How do I prepare for these?”

With more technology being added daily to the application process, the number of video interviews and assessments seems to be on the rise.

Recommendation: Follow these three steps to vastly improve your chances of getting through this early stage:

  • First, read everything they send you looking specifically for information on time, likely questions, practice options, and importantly when it’s due.

  • Go to this site here and find out which questions others have seen in the past for that specific company. Video interviews are pre-set so the questions are highly likely to be repeated. 100% prepare for an introduction on yourself and why you want to work there.

  • Make sure your intro and an answer to why you want to work there are ready and within the time limit they lay out. Companies love to ask more random questions about leadership styles, 5-year goals, and how you deal with difficult people so prepare for those too.

Conclusion:

Interviews are difficult to come by currently so don’t treat this any less important than a “real” interview. An hour of prep goes a long way with these video assessments.
