Wednesday, August 14 - "People Are Finally Accepting Requests!"

Good morning!

Just checking in on you. It’s mid-week, how are you holding up?

Here’s what’s on the job description for today:

  1. One of the companies we rely on for company audit but with a wide variety of revenue streams is hiring.

  2. Leo asks, “I’ve tried networking before but now people are finally accepting requests. I’m not doing anything differently so why are they accepting?”

“Acknowledge all of your small victories. They will eventually add up to something great.”

- Kara Goucher

IN HIRING

KPMG

  • Currently in 245 countries and with over a quarter million employees, it’s no surprise why this is a significant brand to have on your resume.

  • With many offices around the world, note that each one is a separate entity so there is not one database for jobs and it can be quite difficult to move offices once employed.

  • Here are a few of the most interesting roles available

TODAY’S QUESTION

Leo asks, “I’ve tried networking before but now people are finally accepting requests. I’m not doing anything differently so why are they accepting?”

It’s beautiful when the term “consequences of your actions” is applying to something positive!

Recommendation: Here is what is likely happening and how you can still improve your odds and outcomes:

  • First, congratulations on finally getting positive feedback from a pretty painful process. It’s likely that two things have happened.

    • 1. You’ve become better at figuring out who to network with and how to reach out to them. It takes time and you should have a mini-celebration for seeing improvement.

    • 2. Once you have enough cold messages out there, eventually they will start to gain traction. If you reach out for a month or two, the most recent and old messages are going to start see replies.

  • Second, take a minute to reflect on who is replying to you. It’s unlikely not to find trends in the response rates. A current client is only getting referrals from western men, even though she’s an Asian woman. I won’t get into why, but that’s what is working for her and once she realised that, she stopped wasting time with those that weren’t interested.

  • Finally, move onto the next stage of the customer journey, which is referrals. Here’s how past and current clients asked for referrals:

    • 1. At the end of calls, they would ask “if you were in my shoes, what would you do to improve your odds of getting an interview?”

    • 2. They asked directly, “can you help me with my application?”

    • 3. They asked less directly, “how does your company deal with referrals?” (note: some companies, especially governments, don’t use referrals so this question can be quite useful).

Conclusion:

Congratulations on staying consistent and getting some nice results. Now it’s time to turn those results into referrals and get some interviews!
