TODAY’S QUESTION
Today’s Questions: “I am location agnostic and so how do I narrow down which countries or cities to focus on?”
Recommendation: being open to locations is great but it is a bit overwhelming at first. Here’s how I’d think about it:
First, start by getting a sense of what countries are an option.
Do this by using the “worldwide” location in LinkedIn and searching up recent job posting for titles you’re considering
Build a list of countries with openings that seem relevant.
Second, remove the ones that you’d be immediately removed from.
Check to see if the job requirements ask for languages you don’t speak.
Are the countries very intense about immigration rules (ex. USA, Canada, Australia)
Finally, spend the next two weeks applying to a wide range of relevant roles from the remaining countries on your list.
For two weeks stay open and let the market decide where you should focus your time and energy.
In which locations are you getting interviews or calls?
Conclusion:
Being open to different countries is awesome but a bit of strategic thought at the beginning will save a lot of wasted execution in the long run.
Have a great day,
Adam
