TODAY’S QUESTION
Livia asks, “I’m passing first round interviews but I don’t get many offers. How can I get more interviews?”
Recommendation: It sounds like you have two problems - let’s take them one by one:
First, you’re passing first round interviews but no offers. What I’ve seen work best is to focus more time on tailoring your answer to the company so you don’t have to hear about some other candidate who had more applicable experience.
The key is to make your experience more applicable, which can be done by understanding who the company’s clients are, what stage of growth their in, and their main goals.
Second, as for getting more interviews, find what’s been working in the past and double down. If it’s networking or tailoring applications, spend more time on that activity.
Finally, no matter what is working for you, make networking part of the process. Nearly everyone I talk to says they know they should do it but they don’t. They’re waiting for the right job, the people to reach out to them, the seasons to change.. I don’t know.
This is your call to action - go network this week!
Conclusion:
Getting more interviews is not always the issue but it can make the process more fun. Ensure you’re using those interviews to the best of your ability, with the goal of at the minimum learning how to be better at it.
